A DISABLED woman has raised £8,000 for a charity which saved her pet from a puppy farm.

Jackie Gardner, 56, set up the Rosie Charity Shop in Madley in August last year.

After an initial slow start, a Hereford Times article boosted trade and she has since managed to raise £8,000.

The money goes to veterinary work for dogs who go into kennels at Hereford and Worcester Animal Rescue.

The charity saved her dog, shih tzu called Rosie, from a puppy farm in Wales and Jackie gave her a new home last February.

Jackie said: "I feel really proud of myself. I am a lady in an electric wheelchair and basically some days I have good days and some days I have bad days.

"I keep going and I am not going to give up. I am giving as much as I can to earn as much as I can to give the animals what they need."

She said trade has dropped in the last few weeks and she would like to see more local customers.

The shop, which is open seven days a week from 10am to 4pm, sells clothes, bric a brac, jewellery, shoes and bags and also has Christmas stock.

Jackie said: "I love it because I feel we are giving something to Rosie's friends at the kennels.

"Rosie is lovely- she is keeping well at the moment. Considering what she looked like when we first had her, she now looks absolutely wonderful."

The shop in Brampton Road is also collecting dog food for the charity.
