HEREFORDSHIRE is one of the key locations to benefit from a major new project, which will see the creation and restoration of over a hundred orchards across Britain.

Helping Britain Blossom backs the creation and restoration of community orchards through skills training.

The project will be delivered as a partnership between Heineken, The Urban Orchard Project and The Bulmer Foundation.

Through its cider business HP Bulmer Ltd Heineken has around 10,000 acres of orchards in and around Herefordshire.

David Forde, Managing Director for Heineken, said the project was about "bringing people together" in sharing a "passion" for orchards.

"I look forward to seeing the groups, and their orchards, blossom over the next few years," he said.

Kath Rosen from The Urban Orchard Project said orchards were a "great way" to bring communities together.

"Everybody can play their part, however big or small. A community orchard isn’t just a collection of trees, it’s a community of people working together to make the local area a better place to live, work and enjoy," he said.
