KNIGHTON now has its first ever Beaver Scout pack. A group of parents with young children got together to see if there was enough interest in the town to start a Beaver group. They soon realised there was lots of interest and a new group was set up and started on October 17. The new leaders are parents Christina Morgan, Nick Cadwallader and Becky Morgan and student Hayley Bywater. At the first meeting the new leaders were helped and advised by Heidi Lewis, the commissioner for Beaver Scouts in Radnorshire.

So popular was the first evening that over 20 children turned up and after playing a couple of games they all made their own beaver using crayons, pen, paper and card. Before leaving the beavers chose a special name each for their leaders. They chose Otter for Christina, Hedgehog for Hayley, Bunny for Becky and Hawk Eye for Nick. The pack will meet in the church hall on Friday evenings just before the well established Cub Scout group. The age for Beavers is from five and three quarters to eight and a half, after which they move into the Cub Scout group. At the moment there are no spaces in the new group but names can be added to a waiting list.
