STUDENTS at a Hereford school have been helping improve their area's community centre.

Four youngsters at Hereford Academy have been building an access area for disabled people visiting Putson's community centre in South Wye, known as Saxon Hall.

The students are on a NVQ Level 2 Construction Operations course which allows them to work in the community while studying for their qualifications.

“The committee agreed that The Hereford Academy would use this piece of land as a project for ‘blended learning’ to include a design of the area right through to construction and completion," said centre manager, Victoria Craig.

"The purpose is to create an easy access area for disabled people to do some gardening when they come to Saxon Hall.

"The students have been fantastic and very enthusiastic. We are looking forward to inviting them to a celebration to unveil the plaque next year.”

Bricks for the work have been donated by the Academy.
