TO ready fans for this year's Rugby World Cup the competition's trophy is coming to Hereford during a 100 day tour.

On July 18 the Webb Ellis Cup will visit Hereford Cathedral during the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour, which starts on June 10.

The tour will travel through Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Wales and England before arriving at Twickenham Stadium on September 18 ahead of the opening ceremony.

The iconic trophy will come face to face with the Hereford Mappa Mundi, dating from the end of the 13th century and featuring many of the participating nations.

Other activities planned for the day include tag rugby and mini coaching sessions around the Cathedral Close.

The Very Reverend Michael Tavinor, Dean of Hereford said: "We are delighted to host the Rugby World Cup on its visit to Hereford, as part of its national tour and to celebrate the great unity that sport brings to our nations.

“We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors alike, to see the trophy in this beautiful setting and to take part in the many activities planned."
