A Festival of Farming, Food and Wildlife, organised by The Countryside Restoration Trust will take place at Awnells Farm, Much Marcle.

The aim of the day, on Saturday May 2, from 11am to 4pm, will be to "promote a better understanding of the link between farming, wildlife and the food on our plate".

Martin Carter, the Trust's director, said: "With free entry and parking, the festival will include various local food and craft stalls, children's activities, refreshments, guided farm walks, rare breed animals, talks and demonstrations.

“This will be our first Festival of Farming, Food and Wildlife at Awnells Farm which gives us the opportunity to showcase the Hereford Rare Breed Cattle and the ancient orchard where the fruit is used to make cider. It promises to be a fun filled event, free for all the family promoting wildlife friendly farming along with local stallholders”

Awnells Farm, which is a 220 acre grassland farm with an abundance of wildlife habitat.

The farmland and farm buildings, which include the cattle yards at Street and Redlands farms, were made over to the Trust by a Deed of Gift from David Powell in 2000.

The farm has a closed herd of traditional Hereford cattle with an ancestry that dates back over 170 years.

An orchard includes many cider apple trees, some of which are 300 years old.
