MEMBERS of Old Radnor WI had the afternoon out for the July meeting, visiting Wye Valley Lavender Farm in St Harmon near Rhayader. A warm welcome was given by the owner Zoe Griffiths at her lovely home surrounded by beautiful views.

The lavender field had been planted in 2009 after research to see if it was possible to grow lavender in the vicinity, it obviously was possible by the wonderful result of the, 4,000 hardy plants established.

The lavender has a busy six week period to harvest the crop, by hand, getting it prepared to be dried and many bunches used for weddings and other occasions.

Members enjoyed purchasing lavender plants and other lavender items, from the lavender shop, and the lovely home made tea that followed.

A short meeting followed. Ailsa thanked member Elizabeth Hughes for making the beautifully decorated cake for last months WI centenery, afternoon tea at Dunfield House, where once again we had a warm welcome from Sue and her husband. All dressed up for the occasion, it was a pleasant afternoon.

Names are being taken for the August 19 trip to Cardiff. If interested please ring either 01543 50675 or 01544 230609.

Septembers meeting will be a visit behind the scenes at Tesco in Llandrindod.
