FOLLOWING on from the successful completion of the first phase of improvements for Clehonger playing field, work is continuing to raise funds for equipment for older children. The new playing field is much appreciated, a real meeting place for all ages, now truly at the heart of the village.

Volunteers continue to be very enthusiastic The most recent event, a sponsored event undertaking circuits of the playing field on July 12 was a great success. It was a cheerful occasion, with excellent weather. Children as young as two years and adults aged up to 77 took part, resulting in a total of £600 being raised for the playing field funds. Congratulations to all who completed the laps around the field, and thanks to the organisers of the event and all those who sponsored the participants.

The money raised will go towards the next stage of equipment for children between five-11. The playing field committee intends to consult with children and parents in the coming months about exactly what is now needed for this age group.

The last month has been a record fundraising period for the playing field funds. Besides the £600 raised from the sponsored walk, Friday coffee morning have raised £240, school fete £61, a whist drive £38, and private event £ 430, making a total of £1369, since the beginning of June. It is wonderful that people have achieved this together, and if we can keep this up, bodes well for finishing the job!

The playing field committee continue to welcome offers of help and fresh ideas for future fund raising.
