AN ONLINE campaign against the temporary closure of the inpatient ward at Bromyard’s Community Hospital has gathered almost 400 signatures.

Campaigners against the closure have been encouraging residents to make their voices heard ahead of tonight’s public meeting.

Their Facebook page has almost 900 likes.

The temporary closure of the inpatient ward is from September 11, which the hospital trust said is due to staff shortages and safety concerns. Read the full story here.

In a statement, CEO of the Wye Valley Trust, Richard Beeken, said the ward will re-open as soon as staffing levels pick up.

Business owner and Bromyard resident Liz Armstrong said: ‘It’s absolutely vital that we show how much public services mean to us in our rural communities.

“This ward closure will affect so many people- from the 28 nurses and health carers and 15 other staff who will be relocated around the county, to our neighbours, family and friends who won’t be able to receive care in their own community.”

She urged Bromyard residents to attend the public meeting tonight to show the Trust how much the ward and hospital means to them.

The public meeting will take place tonight at 7pm at The Falcon Mews, Pump Street, Bromyard, HR7 4BT.
