THE first batch of donations collected in Ross-on-Wye for refugees will be heading to Calais on Sunday.

Ross for Refugees received so many donations for people caught up in the ongoing refugee crisis that they had to temporarily ask people to stop donating.

But on Sunday a van-load of donations will be taken to the organisation, Calaid, who will then take them in a bigger shipment to refugee camps in Europe.

Donations can then start being received again on Monday at the Ryefield Centre in Grammar School Close and from Tuesday at The Globetrotter Cafe in Broad Street.

The Ross for Refugees group hope to take two more shipments and on the 24th of October ten volunteers from the group will be travelling to the refugee camp at Calais.

The volunteers will be meeting up with a working volunteer group who need help with moving donations, giving out supplies to the refugees and with building work around the camp.

There is a bag pack this Sunday and on October 11 at Morrisons in Ross, where donations will be gratefully received for the trip.

Ross for Refugees would like to thank all the volunteers who have helped them get to this point.
