A NORTH Herefordshire school was forced to close after its electricity supply was tampered with.

Police said that at around 6.50am on September 27, an attempt was made to gain entry to Queen Elizabeth Humanities College in Bromyard.

Access was gained to the roof and offenders tried to force entry to a set of double doors but were unsuccessful.

However, fuses were removed from a 25,000 volt transformer which disabled the electricity supply.

Martin Farmer, head teacher at QEHC, said the school had to close for health and safety reasons as fire alarms were affected.

"Electricity supply to the exterior of the school was tampered with which meant that although we had power in certain parts of the building, we did not have power to the fire alarms," he said.

"We notified parents that until we could make sure it was restored school would be closed."

Engineers from Western Power Distribution attended and the school was open again by 11am that morning.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 with reference number 0143S 280815.
