A NORTH Herefordshire activity centre says its glamping market is booming – and the local economy is reaping the benefit.

Oaker Wood Leisure launched its second woodland glamping village at the start of this year and says overnight stays there are up by more than 100 per cent.

The glamping villages at the centre, in Kingsland, have proved popular across the corporate team building sector with companies including Ikea, the AA, Jaguar Land Rover and Halifax all taking advantage of Oaker Wood's team building packages.

And the business said its North Herefordshire base is becoming an increasingly popular destination for stag and hen parties which is, in turn, boosting the local economy.

School and youth group visits have also increased year on year with the launch of the second glamping village, meaning Oaker Wood can now accommodate groups of up to 120 young people.

In a statement the business said: "This rapid growth has mean Oaker Wood Leisure has offered increasing employment opportunities in rural North Herefordshire.

"Although some work is seasonal, the company has been able to offer permanent employment to a growing number of young people."

Glamping accommodation is in wooden glamping pods, made locally by Jaques International Ltd, nestled in woodland villages with camp fires, covered dining and kitchen areas and an indoor Scandinavian style barbecue hut.

There is also access to on-site activities including high ropes, clay pigeon shooting, quad trekking, raft building and paintball as well as team building challenges for those who choose to glamp.
