NEXT week's performances of a village pantomime which restarted to raise money for a new hall could be held for the last time in the current hall.

The Garway Village Hall committee decided to start a pantomime in the village in February 2001 to raise money to pay for a new village hall.

Last November it was confirmed that a lottery grant of £717,906 had been awarded to build a new community centre in the village.

The current 1920s hall building will be sold.

And over the years, as well as raising money for a new hall, the annual pantomime has raised money for lots of charities, including St Michael's Hospice and the Hereford Haven.

The first pantomime was Little Red Riding Hood in 2001, including an orchestra led by Francis Pullen.

By 2007 they had become Garway and Friends “Av A Go Panto” and Richard Sparey became director.

From 2011/13 Eugene Gooch was director and since then Claire Harris has taken over the role.

Members of the group have come and gone over the years, but there are still three of the original members left- Clare Francis, Kath Jasper and Lorraine Webb.

From 2008 to 2011 they performed during consecutive weekends at Garway and Skenfrith halls so they could support four charities instead of two.

And for this year's show Av A Go Panto presents Pirates of the Panto on February 18, 19 and 20 at 7.30pm and a Saturday matinee at 2pm at Garway Village Hall.

Tickets are £8 for adults, £5 for children and concessions. Available from St Weonards Shop, Garway Moon and Broad Oak Garage.

Proceeds raised will go to The Children's Society and Dore Community Transport.
