IT'S not often that an 8-0 home win gets overshadowed but for one Hereford FC supporter that's exactly what happened on Saturday.

In front of more than 4,000 fans, Matt Morgan went down on one knee and proposed to girlfriend Lorna Griffiths in what is believed to be the first ever marriage proposal at Edgar Street.

Lorna, who was watching her maiden football match, said yes and the happy couple, who live in the Portfields area of Hereford, were able to return to the stand to watch the Bulls record their biggest victory of the season.

"We've been talking about getting married for a while," said Matt, who turned 36 on Sunday.

"I was going to propose when we went to Weston-Super-Mare at the beginning of April but I hadn't received the ring then.

"I wanted to do something that blew her mind. I spoke to the club and it went from there."

As the half time whistle went, Matt explained he was 'going to the toilet' but instead walked around to the other side of the pitch to prepare for one of the biggest moments of his life.

Thirty-two-year-old Lorna, meanwhile, was called pitchside by PA announcer Matt Healey on the pretext that she was going to have a photo with Hereford's mascot.

"I think she was wondering why I wore a suit to the game," said Matt, who works in retail in Hereford.

"Afterwards, I just couldn't speak. I was blown away.

"When we went back to the stand, people were tapping us on the back and hugging us."

The couple, who have been together about 18 months, plan to tie the knot next summer.

They clearly chose the perfect match to celebrate their engagement as Hereford beat Heanor Town 8-0 to move within one victory of securing promotion, something they achieved at Coventry Sphinx on Monday night.

Meanwhile, a Hereford Bull will be paraded at Wembley ahead of Hereford FC's FA Vase final next month.

Hawkesbury 1 Ronaldo will be given special pre-match access after owners Westons received permission from the Football Association.

The Champion Bull - part of the Henry Weston Bounds Poll Heard - was paraded around Edgar Street prior to Hereford FC's historic first league match against Dunkirk last August.

Hereford FC chairman, Jon Hale, said: "When he was paraded before our first competitive game back in August he was a huge hit with everyone at the stadium, and I’m sure it will be no different for those people who see him at Wembley.

"I’d like to thank everyone who has worked so hard to make this happen - it will only serve to make this special day even more memorable."
