A BAND which formed after a chance meeting two years ago are set to showcase their dark pop music to thousands of festival goers.

Cherryshoes whose six band members are based around Hay-on-Wye have been chosen to play on the BBC Introducing stage at Tea in the Park in Scotland which runs from July 7 to 10.

The introducing scheme was set-up to help local bands get exposure on local and national radio alongside the chance to perform at major festivals.

Bands who have become famous after playing on the stage include Jake Bugg, Florence and the Machine and Two Door Cinema Club.

Cherryshoes was created after bass guitarist Rob Robinson joined together with singer Lisa Mottram two years ago for a one off performance in Hay-on-Wye.

"Me and Lisa used to be in a band together and after a chance meeting agreed to play together," said Rob.

"It went from there really and we were so successful that we thought we had something special here. People seem to like it and we have gone from strength to strength."

Cherryshoes were formed with the addition of guitarists Ade Williams and Des Davies, drummer Antoine Lapinblanc and keyboard player Dave Prescott.

After getting a slot to play at Latitude Festival their music was played on BBC Introducing Hereford and Worcester.

The band recorded a live session with DJ Andrew Marston at the Conquest Theatre in Bromyard who then forwarded them to be selected for Tea in the Park which is attended by 50,000 festival goers each year.

Rob added: "We are blown away to have been chosen although we knew we had been forwarded so had a chance.

"We didn't really think that we would get to play at such a big festival. It will be the biggest crowd we have played to but we're not nervous and just need to do our thing.

"The BBC Introducing stage is a big thing as the radio station really get behind it so it's a big opportunity for us.

"The set will also be recorded and then put on the BBC website and parts of it might be live on television."

The band have also had their song titled 'Ride On' played on BBC Radio One earlier this month and are in the process of making their first album with the help of Jim Elliot, who has also worked with Ellie Goulding and Kylie Minogue.

Cherryshoes will also be playing at Latitude Festival and Nozstock Festival in Bromyard.
