AROUND 100 people joined the search for Pokémon during Hereford's first PokéTrek on Sunday.

Organised by those who are behind the Pokémon Go - Herefordshire Facebook page, the trek saw players of the popular game gather on Castle Green before exploring the city to search for rare types of the virtual creatures.

The Pokémon Go game has become a global hit with people of all ages, allowing players to capture, battle, and train Pokémon.

The creatures appear on device screens as though in the real world, with the game making use of GPS and the device's camera.

Sunday's event also raised more than £130 for Age UK Hereford.

Writing on the Facebook page, trek organisers said: "It's been amazing to see so many players come out and enjoy a walk around our beautiful city.

"Hopefully some of you have hatched some eggs and caught some new Pokémon.

"Thank you to every single person who turned up, whether you stayed for the duration or just a little while. You made it worthwhile."

Players headed over the Victoria Bridge after meeting at Castle Green before walking on through Hereford city centre.

The organisers added that plans were already in motion for a second PokéTrek in the future.
