THE pedal power of a group of friends from Worcester, inspired by three cousins who lost their grandfather to cancer in April, has raised more than £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Katie, Sophie and Lisa James, whose grandfather John James, aged 74, of Bromyard, died in April from lymphoma, wanted to do something to raise money in his memory. So with Sophie’s partner Adam Law and a group of friends, they planned a charity cycle ride. They plotted their 32 mile route around Worcestershire, riding via Lower Broadheath, Kempsey and back, to end up at St Peters in Worcester, while the men managed a 50 mile route via Droitwich and Tibberton, Martley and finally also finishing in Worcester.

Mr Law said: “We wanted to raise money in memory of my partner’s grandad who sadly died in April as a result of losing his battle with cancer. We want to try to help other people who have to deal with cancer by raising as much money as possible. There were 10 of us altogether and it was a great day. We were really pleased to have collected so much for Cancer Research UK.”
