COMMUNITY spirit is alive and well in Ross-on-Wye as a group of volunteers plan to meet this Sunday to clear a public garden area.

Residents complained about the unkempt state of the area at the the bottom of Brampton Street at the junction with Ledbury Road.

In response, a group of volunteers, including town councillors, have arranged to meet there this Sunday at 10am to cut hedges back and tidy the area.

The area is the responsibility of Herefordshire Council and its contractors, Balfour Beatty, and the volunteers needed to seek permission to carry out the voluntary work, which was given.

Town councillor Daniel Lister said he had asked for the area to be transferred to the control of Ross Town Council but this was not possible at the time.

He has also asked for the area to be cleaned on a regular basis but this did not go ahead either.

Cllr Lister said: "It's great that the residents want to help with this area as it's such a key area of Ross and needs to be cleared and kept so on a regular basis to keep smart for all and be the area it should be.

"It is great that residents are willing to help and organise it and will help Ross massively to which all councillors, I'm sure, will be very thankful."
