A FURTHER psychiatric report has been ordered on a 20-year-old man who stabbed his father in a car in Hereford.

Thomas Newman pleaded guilty to wounding John Newman with intent and not guilty to attempted murder.

The pleas were accepted by the prosecution at Worcester Crown Court.

Glyn Samuels, prosecuting, said Newman got into the car where his father was sitting in Cusop Close, Newton Farm, with two knives and stabbed him eight times.

The court heard that one of the blows caused a serious wound to his dad's stomach.

Mr Newman, aged 51, is believed to have recovered following the attack at 6.45pm on Sunday, May 15.

Allan Mainds, defending, told the court a second psychiatric report was to be carried out shortly.

Judge Andrew Lockhart, QC, said the likely outcomes would be a hospital order or a prison sentence depending on the psychiatric evidence. The case was adjourned and Newman was remanded in custody for a further hearing to take place before November 12.
