MARY Evans celebrated her 103rd birthday on September 20 at Kington Court Care Home receiving many cards and visits from friends and relatives at a party organised by her sister Elsie Lloyd aged 98.

Well wishers included a card from a wartime evacuee placed with Mary now living in New Zealand.

She had lived all her life in Almeley parish until entering Kington Court 12 months ago.

Born Mary Margaretta Lilwall at Logaston Farm she moved to Castle Froome Farm in 1918 and later to New House Farm shortly before the Second World War.

Married to Richard (Dick) Evans she was very involved in life on the dairy farm with particular involvement with poultry.

A few years after retirement they moved to a bungalow in Almeley where Mary stayed for over 20 years.

Until a few years ago she was an active member of the Women's Institute and very interested in gardening.
