A COUNCILLOR has resigned from the Independent group of Herefordshire Councillors because he claims they are not providing a sufficient opposition to the current Conservative-led administration.
Green Party councillor Gerald Dawe, from the Hollington Ward, said he joined the Independent Group to gain committee places that would be in the interests of his constituents.
But, he claimed, that over the last six months he has become increasingly aware that the group's main function appears to be that of supporting some of its members in key positions and is frustrtaed that there is no effective opposition to the present administration.
Coun Dawe's announcement follows Councillor Marcelle Lloyd-Hayes' resignation from the Liberal Democrat Party.
Coun Lloyd-Hayes also described her party's lack of opposition as the reason why she left the group earlier this week.
