A SURVEY has revealed that the Wye Valley is one of the top 10 most picturesque locations in the UK.

With the number of ‘staycation’ holidays increasing as a result of lockdown, Sky Mobile polled brits to find the most naturally beautiful destinations in the country, with the Wye Valley in seventh place.

This should not come as a surprise as the first ever use of the word ‘picturesque’ was in a publication called ‘Observations on the river Wye’, and the area has certainly retained its beauty in the centuries since the term was coined.

OTHER NEWS:

The survey found that more people are choosing to holiday in areas such as the Wye Valley due to the abundance of natural beauty in the UK, the cost-of-living crisis, and the desire to avoid the stresses of travelling.

The survey of 2,000 British adults also identified what Brits have on their ‘wish list’ for a perfect staycation with beautiful landscapes, picturesque locations and peace and quiet topping the list.

James Whitehurst of Saxon sup, tours and coaching, said that tourists are attracted to the ‘untouched, natural countryside that you don’t get to see in a lot of the UK.

"Herefordshire is such a beautiful county, as is the Wye valley as a whole," he said.

"It’s important to maintain this beauty in the face of increasing pollution."

"In 2021 and 2022 people only wanted to holiday in the UK so it was really busy, but now that the world has opened up things are quieting down."
