AS a Bartestree resident and frequent user of the A438 I have to wonder what excuse our county highways department has for the recent road closure due to the blocked culvert between Tarrington and Trumpet crossroads (Road closure: update on A438 after flooding in Herefordshire).

It was closed after heavy rain a few weeks ago followed by traffic lights whilst investigations took place, then full closure again after the next heavy rain.

Letters should not exceed 250 words and local issues take precedence.

Why did we have to wait so long for someone to do what’s necessary? Too much pontificating and not enough decisive action while locals have to deal with disruption to bus services and lorries diverting down smaller roads.

Surely this should have fallen into the category of ‘urgent repair’, which can be sanctioned for immediate works.
