WITH two reports prepared by professionals (WSP October 2020 and AECON Dec 2023) supporting an eastern bridge it is surely right that the present Conservative administration now get on and support this project.

Or do they intend to ask the consultants to change their transport models and rewrite their reports to align with the promises made to the electorate in the run-up to the last election?

Neither west nor east is going to happen quickly (how many years has it already taken!) but the eastern option is consistently evidenced as deliverable in a quicker time scale and at a much lower cost.

With a third of the county’s population living and working in Hereford, the baseline priority for council investment must be the delivery of a second city bridge. Once this has been secured the council can look again at the value of grander schemes.
