A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) said on Monday (April 22): "A HWFRS crew from Hereford was called at 7.41am on April 20 to a recycling centre. A hotspot was located in a recycling refuse stack. On-site staff used a telehandler to break down and remove the stack and the crew stood by with a hose reel jet to dampen down. The area was checked with a thermal imaging camera to check for hot spots but none were found. The incident was marked as pending closure at 9.55am."

A council spokesperson added: "We'd like to thank fire service colleagues for attending the waste transfer station at the request of a member of staff and for taking precautionary measures to ensure there was no ongoing issue of concern."
