THE campaign to save a closed Herefordshire pub is steaming ahead with the next move announced.

The historic Tram Inn pub in Eardisley has been closed since 2020 and is currently on the market with agents Sidney Phillips with an asking price of £465,000 (freehold) or £30,000 (leasehold).

Last year, the ‘Save the Tram’ group made an initial move towards reviving the lost watering hole by releasing a questionnaire to see whether locals would be interested in purchasing the freehold of the pub and reopening it under community ownership.

A group spokesperson said at the time that they had gathered with one purpose in mind, "to breathe life into our local and see it open once more".

“We’ve spoken to many others in the village who we have realised feel as we do and would love to see the Tram open and successfully trading again, becoming the wonderful and cherished hub that it once was," they said.

And the group received an incredible response to their survey, with more than 96 per cent of those asked saying they wanted to see it reopen, while just  3.6 per cent said they were not bothered, and 0.2 per cent said it should stay closed.

And that overwhelming support has spurred them on, with a public meeting planned to take place on May 19 at which the group will share details of the business plan and share offer.

The meeting will start at 2pm at Eardisley Village Hall.

"We will also begin to ask for pledges of financial support (not binding at this stage, just to give us an idea) that will be via purchasing shares - all details of what this involves will be explained in the meeting," the group said.

Sidney Phillips said the pub had an annual turnover of £440,000 per annum before its closure.

It comes complete with two character trading areas offering space for around 80 covers, "outstanding" gardens with a converted brew house offering games room and function facilities, and three-bed owners' accommodation.
