ON June 18 a largely new audience filled the church in Huntington, for the Friends of St Thomas's Mid-Summer Concert.

This was the third anniversary of the founding of the Friends organisation and this year, the church was filled with the foot-tapping sounds of the audience, as they gently moved to the music of Sonia Hammond, playing her cello and Adrian Crick accompanying and singing with her on his guitar.

From the Renaissance 'May Day Fair' to 'Rio Papa Loapan' – a samba from South America - the evening took off with 'Welcome to New York'. Here Adrian sang a 1940s urban blues piece, which had Sonia conjuring car horns, rat squeaks and police sirens on her cello as part of New York's soundscape. Yet there was also a Bach Sarabande and cello suite from the master, to add to the melée.

Sonia and Adrian cleverly arranged all these pieces themselves. It brought a cry for encores and the audience was left feeling enormous enjoyment.

The audience was then invited into the gardens of William and Fiona Shone of Huntington Court, where a party took place and everyone was treated to copious wine and delicious canapés, all provided by the people of Huntington.
