HEREFORD United assistant manager Steve Jenkins believes the Bulls can still stay up this season despite a demoralising defeat against Tamworth last night.

United are currently two points from safety in the Skrill Premier Conference table after Chester drew 0-0 against Wrexham earlier today.

Realistically, Hereford have to beat Alfreton at home on Easter Monday and win at Aldershot next Saturday if they want to stay in the division.

Skrill Premier table

18. Southport - 50 points. GD: -18

19. Aldershot - 48 points. GD: +7

20. Chester - 47 points. GD: -22

21. Hereford - 45 points. GD: -21

22. Dartford - 44 points. GD: -22

"It is tough when you're not scoring regularly in games, it affects the players, but we still have to keep believing," said Jenkins, who combines his role alongside managing Monmouth Town.

"There are two games to go and we have to to get six points out of them and hope other results go for us.

"If you look at the statistics, we have been comparable with the other teams in terms of possession, shots on target and corners - we just need that little bit of luck."

Jenkins, a former Wales international, said United's club's financial problems should not have a bearing on what the players do on the pitch.

"I have been at clubs that have had big financial problems, but it is all about staying strong and concentrating on your own job," said Jenkins.

"At the end of the day, when you cross the white line, you are not thinking about the financial problems or the problems surrounding the club - it is is about winning a game of football.

"That is what the players have been working on since they were eight or 10 years of age."

Monmouth-based Jenkins said the Hereford supporters were once again "magnificent" last night and urges them to turn out in their droves for the final two games of the season.

"Since Pete Beadle and myself came to the club, they have been fantastic to us and really supportive," said Jenkins.

"I just ask them that they stick with us for these two games and hopefully we can make them proud next Saturday and it will be a real day to remember."
