THE wash-out of the entire Worcestershire County League programme brought a positive result for one Herefordshire club with Burghill & Tillington clinching promotion back to Division One even though their game at home to Oldswinford and Stourbridge Social was abandoned without a ball bowled.
The villagers enjoyed a three-wicket success at Malvern on Saturday and are 84 points clear of third-placed Worcester Dominies with only three games remaining.
They must be considered hot favourites for the title as they are 61 points clear of second-placed Bewdley.
The likelihood of Burghill & Tillington replacing Bromyard in the top flight next season receded considerably on Saturday when the Flagonners Green club dispatched Harvington by a massive 240 runs.
Josh Tongue (127) and Ashley Bullock (83 not out) spearheaded the Bromyard charge as they piled up a massive 279-3 from their 50 overs.
Tongue (3-11) then also played a major part with the ball, backing up Ahmed Jamal (5-21) as Harvington were rushed out for just 39.
Bromyard's win leaves them seven points clear of danger and pushes Harvington into the bottom two.
Colwall retain high hopes of a top-three finish after a winning draw against Hagley.
In Division Four, Bartestree & Lugwardine are also odds-on to be promoted after Monday's wash-out left them 43 points clear of third-placed Claverley.
The villagers enhanced their position with a rain-affected win at Old Hill on Saturday.
Canon Frome are set to be crowned Division Six champions for the second year running after James Fortnam's 112 underpinned a winning draw with Birlingham.
