TEENAGE scrum-half Ben Williams is looking to revive his career in the professional game with some star showings for Luctonians this season.

And the 18-year-old, who was released by Worcester Warriors at the end of last season, has made a good start this season, turning in a man-of-the-match display as the Mortimer Park club gained a crucial National Two North win at home to Broadstreet.

"It was very disappointing to be let go by Worcester at the end of last season," admitted Williams. "But I am determined to show them that they have lost someone who can make it in the professional game.

"My aim is still to be a professional player.

"I'm looking forward to having most of this season at Luctonians in National Two North and then, in March, I'm off to New Zealand.

"I'm going to Dunedin to play for Otago. Everyone whom I've spoken to says it's a good idea and that I will come back a better player.

"Before that, I want to keep my place in the team here and try to be a top player in every game, especially against the top four sides in the division."

The bonus-point win against Broadstreet was an important victory to keep Luctonians away from danger at the foot of the table.

"It was a win that we needed just to get that winning mentality back," said Williams.

"It's been a while coming.

"This is a tough division and it's different from last season, when I played half the season here, in that there are no easy team.

"Broadstreet are second from the bottom of the table but they were tough opposition."

Luctonians got off to a good start when Will Burton raced in to score after just four minutes.

Geraint Langdon added the extras and extended the lead with a successful penalty before Ben Cooper cut the margin with a kick for Broadstreet.

The visitors drew closer again when Jack Gibbons powered over for an unconverted try.

But Luctonians then drew away in the 10 minutes leading up to the interval.

Jimmy Norris hacked the ball forward from a fumbled pass and went the length of the field before playing in Langdon to score under the posts.

Williams then played a key role in playing in Burton for his second score.

"I thought that I was about to be tackled so I passed to Will even though I then realised I was over the line," said Williams.

"It was a bit disappointing to miss out on my first Luctonians try but I'll put it down as a selfless act," he joked.

Langdon added the extras on each occasion to give the home side a comfortable 24-8 half-time lead.

A second try for Gibbons early in the second period, converted by Gibbons, saw Broadstreet draw closer and the margin was reduced still further when the Luctonians front row were ruled to have stood up and a penalty try was awarded.

However, with Brad Talbot returning from the sin-bin, Luctonians were able to pile on the pressure once more and after Broadstreet had conceded a strig of penalties near their own line, Luctonians were also awarded a penalty try which Langdon converted to put the seal on an important victory.
