ROSS gained a crucial bonus point win against one of their Gloucester 2 promotion rivals when they beat Aretians 27-22.

The visitors scored two quick tries to take a 12-0 lead but Ross did not panic and began to exploit gaps in the Aretians defence with Craig Smith going over in the corner.

Huw Bellamy could not add the conversion but traded penalties with his opposite number to see Ross go in at half time 15-8 down.

In the second half, the away side now struggled to fend off wave after wave of Ross attacks and the tries followed.

Ross added three fine scores, two for man-of-the-match Chay Brine and one for Casey Morgan, all as a result of running the ball out of defence, showing great basic skills and support play.

By the middle of the last quarter, Ross had overturned the 15-8 deficit to take a 27-15 lead and a late Aretians score could not take the shine off a mature Ross performance.
