HEREFORD came from behind to beat Leominster and to give themselves a fighting chance of staying in Conference North of the GoCrea8 Hockey League.

A goal from Stew Goodarzi in the second half proved to be the winner in a match played in atrocious conditions.

Hereford took the lead with a penalty stroke from Andy Rogers after he was fouled, before Leominster levelled through Steve Dobson.

And the away side were soon in the lead when another mix-up from Hereford led to Dobson scoring again.

However, it was all-squad at the break when Danny Makaruk scored for Hereford to make it 2-2.

The second half was more tighter, with fewer chances.

Leominster's Dave Harvey had a great opportunity to score after rounding Hereford goalkeeper Jim Wallis, but he hit a post.

And it was Hereford who went on to win the game thanks to Goodarzi's goal.

The win closes the gap between Hereford and the sides above them.

"It was a huge result in a very even game, with a draw probably being a fair result," said Hereford captain Mark Allen.

"That gives us two wins in a row for the first time this season so we are hoping to carry a bit of momentum forward into our coming games."

This Saturday, Hereford host Whitchurch 2nds, who are in mid-table, while Leominster go to third-placed Team Bath Buccaneers 3rds.

Ross-on-Wye bounced back from a 5-1 hammering against Cleevillians on Saturday by beating Cardiff Medics 5-4 the following day.

With Cheltenham 3rds also winning at the weekend, it means the two sides are level on points at the top of De Cymru & The Marches 2.

In The Marches 1, Leominster and Hereford 2nds both lost 4-1 to Gloucester City 3rds and Stroud respectively, while Ross 2nds beat Wotton-under-Edge 8-5 in The Marches 2 before drawing 3-3 with Cheltenham 5ths.
