THE HFA Walking Football World Cup has taken place in Hereford to mark 50 years since England won the famous Jules Rimet Trophy.

The day-long event, staged at Hereford Academy, involved six teams; Leominster FC, Hereford Wednesday FC and Ross from Herefordshire. Stroud WF from Gloucestershire, Highley Severn WFC from Shropshire and Hindlip FC from Worcestershire.

The tournament was a great success with Stroud WF, representing North Korea, winning the competition.

The majority of games were close with Leominster FC, representing Switzerland, and Hereford Wednesday FC, representing England, putting in some great performances.

Walking Football is adapted for the over 50’s, allowing them to relive their childhood while also bringing noticeable health benefits.

"Walking football is a great new initiative that enables men from fifty upwards to get together and in some cases rediscover there youth it tackles social isolation encourages team work and helps with fitness," he said.

"For me it was very good to see the how competitive these guys were and how friendly they were with each other afterwards I do hope this is the first of many tournament and this new sport grows."
