RETURNING striker Dan Polan says he is delighted to return to Westfields and is confident his side can challenge for the Midland Football League title.

Polan has been coaching at West Ham United's International Academy in San Francisco, USA, but returned to the UK due to his father being ill

The powerful striker has already made a mark for Westfields in pre-season, netting a hat-trick in a 7-3 rout over Bewdley Town.

"I've been out for a while, but I'm getting sharper each game and I just feel good to get off the mark and hit the target," said Polan.

"I was here about two years ago.

"I started pre-season like last time and then the first month or two of the season before I was off to America.

"I have been coaching out there but I had to come back because my dad has been ill.

"I'm just happy to be back involved."

Polan said he learnt a lot in the States.

"It's just a different culture and a lot of Hispanic football out there, with short, sharp technical stuff," he explained.

"They are trying to implement what they do in Spain, so it was a good experience.

"I was coaching for West Ham, they've got an international academy there.

"It's something all clubs in the Premier League are trying to do now, because there's more money and they want more coverage."

Polan has already noticed the difference at Westfields since returning to the club.

"The pitch looks amazing and every time I come back, the facilities are good," he said.

"It's good to have healthy competition and, if you have an off day, it's good because the club have got someone who can step up.

"I was fortunate to have the three chances, but before that Greavesie [Richard Greaves] had them, so there's goals in the team which is what you need to win the league."

Greaves also netted two goals against Bewdley, which came on the back of a hat-trick against Malvern Town in another 7-3 win for Sean Edwards' team.

Greaves was the top scorer for Monmouth Town last season and.

"I've been really impressed with the players and the management and pleased with how it's been going in pre-season," he said.

"With the players we've got within the squad is unbelievable this year and there'll be five or six strikers fighting for players.

"If you're scoring, you're not going to be in the team.

"This is new to me, but I relish the challenge of being in the league, with new players and new places to go.

"I thought the Welsh Premier is a good standard, but there is a lot of travelling.

"That is what put me off although I've had chances to go there.

"But the difference between the Welsh Prem and the league below is huge.

"I wanted to play the best football I could and this is where I thought I could do that.

"Personally, I came here to win the league and, after speaking to Sean and the other guys, they want to go for it.

"They've brought players in to do that and with the likes of Jamie [Molyneux], Sid [Sirdic Grant] and Sam [Rawlings[, it's a statement to the league that we do want to challenge for the trophy and that is the reason why I have come here."

Greaves opened the scoring after five minutes before Dan Pepperall equalised for Bewdley with a great strike.

Westfields regained the lead through Polan in the 26th minute and Grant opened his Westfields account five minutes later.

Bewdley reduced the deficit at the start of the second half through Cory Rude following poor defending by Westfields, but Greaves netted again to make it 4-2.

It could have been 5-2 in the 51st but Grant missed a penalty.

However, the ball was in the net in the 57th thanks to Polan and the striker soon completed his hat-trick.

Rude scored again for Bewdlwy, but Westfields had the final say when Sam Harrison netted.
