A SUPER heavyweight champion is inspiring the next generation of boxers at the South Wye Police Boxing Academy.

With the new boxing season nearly on us, with massive changes in the sport, there are non bigger that six foot six elite champion Delicious Orie, known to his friends as DJ to inspire the next generation.

The South Wye club has had the great fortune to secure the services of one of the top talents in the country to propel the club even further.

Orie trains in Sheffield during the week and travels down to Hereford to help mold and develop the South Wye competition team.

Coach Vince McNally said: "This has been such a positive boost in a difficult time for everyone at the club. "Away from boxing we have fought hard during the lockdown to support the NHS clinic based at Hinton Community centre.

"Also during this period we have now given out over 300 pairs of gloves and pads and worked with the police, Hereford Community Foundation and Hereford City Council providing over 600 meals and physical training for children during the summer in our Fit and Fed project.

"It has been difficult for so many people and we will keep working hard to support all of our boxers."

South Wye Police Boxing Academy have built a secure outdoor training area with punchbags and lots of space to provide the safety of training in a Covid secure environment.

The club's training times have had to change and the way they book sessions has also altered.

"You can be sure we will still continue to provide the best training we can, with our facilities and our coaching team," added McNally.
